Technological change is rapid change to our present and our perspective of the future. it caused a more substantial transformation in history, academics, scientists, public and private sector and civil society. Even more, it influenced in culture and norms of society.

In addition to that, researchers, journalists, political officials, and even civil society speak out against technology in their speeches, lectures, and studies. Look the way we use technology in today, it’s completely destructive and energy draining. on the other hand, technology played a critical role in the enhancement of education, business development, national defense, and social connectivity.  In recent decades’ technology brought new features and platforms which are most popular in the eyes of people. The most well-known platforms emerged recently include social media platforms.

Social media platforms contributed much more effects in the context of business, society, education, culture, and politics.

In this editorial essay context, I will talk about briefly both positive and negative effects of social media on businesses. Later I will talk about the effects of social media on society education, culture, and politics.

Social media has had a tremendous impact on business. in business, on the world-at-large.  Social media websites are some of the most popular haunts on the Internet. They have revolutionized the way businesses communicate their customers and dealers with the intention to socialize on the Web by doing buying and selling transactions.

First, every business uses social media differently with different purposes. The most important uses that businesses had in common, include:

1.      To sell their products or services

It’s no wonder that social media have full-blown marketing tools and channels. Taking sales in social media is a straight forward and direct method of marketing since the clients exactly know what they are getting whether it’s products or service.

Moreover, doing sales and advertisements in social media is a convenient way and cheap which in result the business can get in more product traffics and visits easily.

There are also some companies who build them relationship to customers, connecting their network teams, promote their products in every day, and reach their customers through using social media marketing tools.

2.To become the leading industry resource

The most typical approach that businesses use for social media marketing is to pass information to their customers in order to have some insights and attract those customers. Truly communicating to your customers through a positive way by using a word of mouth to spread their information related to their products and services which finally leads to the business brands to be trusted and see their customers as a business industry leader.

Business spends its most efforts by providing customers immediate responses and feedback related to their needs and wants. The main idea behind that effort is to enhance their customer trust and satisfaction towards the quality of their services.

B. Negative effects of social media on businesses

With the help of social media, companies use social media to run their business through online and it allows them to communicate their target customers, build a personal relationship and take advertisement campaigns and most importantly to increase their market share and their sales force.  Although the positive impact of social media would be great if planned strategically, then there is a negative impact that social media is introducing nowadays. These negative impacts include; the positive contribution of social media and its return on investment is hard to measure. Since the business companies spend many dollars on social media adds and customer connectivity, it’s not clear the portion of returns that social media generates. In other words, it is difficult for businesses to find out how much worth the marketing activities in social media bring their companies.

Moreover, the company employees represent the business brand image and it’s something critical to monitor their social media activities. Along with that, its difficult to make them understand that on such social media platforms are not allowed to discuss the company issues without proper authorization. There is a risk related to posting information relating to their companies predefined objectives which they may never know that it would damage company reputation.

In addition to that, misplaced information in social media is hard to rectify and its sometimes impossible to reverse in social media channels since it hits on the eyes of customers within a few seconds.

Finally, Social media is also a big platform for customers to give complaints and feedback about your products and services. Not everyone will directly contact you and submit a complaint, but some of them will give your business profiles, offerings, and services at negative comments or reviews. Which in turn causes that your brand will suffer for more negative views.

Interactions and feedback from customers help businesses to understand the market and fine-tune their products and strategies. Compared to television advertisements and other expensive forms of marketing, social media presence is a cheap and effective means to enhance brand image and popularity. Unfortunately, there are a few downsides too to social networking. Many introverts and socially reclusive users place too much emphasis on virtual interaction and ignore the real world outside.
